Hello, my name is Howard Pollock, Owner.
I am Treasurer for
Clan Pollock International, work full-time for
Micron
Technology, Webmaster for several Websites, member of several
Community Organizations, and have this business as well.
I have been involved with my Scottish heritage
since the early 90's, when we first found out that our family originated from
Scotland, via Ireland and then Nova Scotia in the late 1700's.
My Daughter went off to college and I there
was a great emptiness in the house. We had been so involved in our children's
activities, we were now looking for something to do.
I decided to learn the bagpipes. I started
looking for a teacher and found the local Scottish shop. It was months before he
had an opening, but I was fortunate that my teacher, being from Glasgow himself,
had time to take on an additional student.
Beginning December of 2000, I began taking
lessons. I purchased my first set of pipes in April and played at my Daughters
wedding in June. I played my first of many Funerals in September of 2000.
My first set of pipes was a set of McCallum
AB2's, I have also owned McCallum AB4D, AB4 Horn & Gold, AB Full Engraved
Nickel, St. Kilda #3, #4, and #5's. I love them all and can say they are
all of the highest Quality!
In 2001, all the students decided we wanted to
start our own band. With the help of the nearly 50 year Boise Highlanders, we
were provided drums and instruction for Pipes & Drums.
Searching for a name, we took upon the reference of Robbie Burns Poem, "To a
Mouse" - We became the Sleekit Beasties! The band began with 6 piper's and 1
drummer growing in size, now more than 12 piper's and 5 drummers.
I began giving lessons in 2004, which greatly
improved my own personal abilities, more attention to detail and precision along
with more practice.
I do more Individual piping now than
with the band. This gives me more time to work on more complex tunes as I strive
to be the best that I can.
Weddings, Funerals, Parties, and more!
